One of the key aims of any NDIS plan is capacity building, particularly geared towards enabling individuals to live as independently and fully as possible. A crucial aspect of this process involves fostering community connections and pursuing passions, which can significantly enhance the quality of life. This is Annie’s story, a testament to the power of community and the unwavering support of OnSide.
Reconnecting with a passion
Annie, a spirited NDIS participant, shares a deep love for the Richmond Tigers. Attending games was once a cherished activity she enjoyed with her Support Worker, Michelle, who is equally passionate about the team. However, like many, Annie faced the harsh realities of rising costs and had to step back from attending the matches.
The Role of OnSide Support Coordination
Understanding how much attending the games meant to Annie, her OnSide Support Coordinator sprang into action. Recognising the emotional and social benefits that these outings brought to Annie’s life, they reached out to the Tigers’ headquarters, hoping for a miracle. The plea did not go unheard. The Tigers, demonstrating their community spirit, generously offered a free ticket to Annie.
So I reached out to the Tigers headquarters and asked if they had any spare tickets for the season as I had an amazing NDIS participant and they were amazing enough to offer a free pass.
The Anticipation and the Event
After weeks of anticipation, the day finally arrived. Annie and Michelle meticulously planned for the perfect game day, eagerly looking forward to the Tigers vs. Hawks match earlier this month. The excitement was palpable as they headed to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), ready to cheer for their beloved Tigers.
A Memorable Experience
The game, despite not ending in the Tigers’ favor, was an unforgettable experience for both Annie and Michelle. Surrounded by hundreds of fellow fans, their spirits were lifted by the vibrant atmosphere and the shared enthusiasm of the crowd. The joy and smiles on their faces were a testament to the success of this endeavour.
Going Above and Beyond
This story highlights the exceptional commitment of the OnSide team to their clients. By going above and beyond to secure the tickets, they not only facilitated a joyous outing for Annie but also reinforced the importance of community and support in enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities.
Celebrating Small Victories
At OnSide, we believe that every victory, big or small, deserves celebration. Annie’s story is a reminder of the impact that thoughtful support and community connections can have. We are incredibly proud of our team’s dedication to making such meaningful experiences possible for our clients.
Annie’s Support Coordinator shares,
It was just so nice seeing the smiles to both of Annie and Michelle and thought I would share this joy with you. Hopefully, it’s just as contagious for you as it is for me and leaves you with a smile too.
